Our History
The Manila Bankers Life and General Assurance Corporation commenced its operations on March 12, 1965 as a result of a merger between two life insurance companies – namely, Alpha Mutual Life Insurance Company and Bankers Life Insurance Corporation.
Founded by the late Senator Gil J. Puyat, Manila Bankers Life and General Assurance Corporation began with a business portfolio of Php 57 million in its first year, which grew by an astounding 8,700% in just 19 years. In the 1980’s, it expanded its portfolio through multiple real estate development projects.
In 2013, current Chief Executive Officer, and President and Chairman of the board, Mabini L. Juan – who is recognized as one of the “pillars” of the Philippine life insurance industry, acquired the controlling interest of the company. Manila Bankers Life and General Assurance Corporation was eventually used as the official trade name for the company – reflecting the revitalization of the company’s business model in 2010.
Manila Bankers Life and General Assurance Corporation has since adopted the meaningful and noble declaration of Senator Gil J. Puyat – “ to serve the people is a privilege we must always cherish” – and will continue to live by it for years and years to come.
The ever-increasing number of its satisfied clients, both individuals and organizations, has been a constant motivation for the company to exceed customer expectations in pursuit of its goal of developing innovative life insurance products for its clients. Under new and steady leadership, the company is poised to take advantage of the countless opportunities in the country’s constantly changing market and ensures that it remains as a prime mover in the Philippine economy and a frontrunner in the insurance industry.
